Movement far from the mind

For those of you who don't know, I currently live in Wilmington, North Carolina. Music here sucks. But just 2 hours north is Chapel Hill, and music there does not suck. Well known indie label Merge Records just recently picked up an amazing Seattle artist by the name of Telekinesis, and the guy is amazing. When I first put on this song I was a bit confused. It starts out a bit rough. I read retro-pop hooks and this didn't make sense. Then at 34 seconds it gave me what I came for. The song is incredible, so check it out below, and make sure to pick up Telekinesis!, due out April 7.

Colourful Animalssss

Ahhh, thanks to Alltel's wonderful aircard and my girlfriend's laptop I am back. For now. Hopefully I can rely on some student loan money to bring me a laptop so I can stay with this thing. Anyway, I've been keeping up with the blogs via RSS feeds on my BlackBerry, and earlier today I read about two new songs on i guess i'm floating and am being thrilled by both. The first comes from a band called Blind Man's Colour and is apparently good enough for even Yeezy to blog about. It's a wonderful little tune. Reminds me of cotton candy and Animal Collective, if that makes any sense at all. And speaking of AC, the second tune actually comes from them. It's a BBC version of some post-MPP song, titled "What Would I Want Sky", and I don't think I need to say that it is amazing. You should be assuming that. It's pretty calm at the start, but when the vocals come in it is unbelievable. Apparently they don't intend on stopping any time soon. Check both tracks out below.

Stream the new Friendly Foes album now!

RCRD LBL has the new Friendly Foes album, titled Born Radical, available to stream from their site right now. It is a delightfully energetic album. I'd certainly be hard pressed to believe that it didn't make you want to dance, so check it out now! "Couch Surfing" is probably my favorite track from the album. You can download it for free here, and get "Get Yr Shit Together" here.

All-American Rejects cover "Womanizer"

The song starts with a baby accordion, and at one point a member of the band is clinking beer bottles together, and what's more, it works beautifully. This is definitely worth listening to.

New of Montreal video

Of Montreal just released the video for what I presume to be the next single off their most recent release, Skeletal Lamping, my number 3 album of the year. This is probably the most "user friendly" song on the album, so it ought to rope you in pretty easy, and the video is absolutely breathtaking.

Somebody to love

From No Pain In Pop:
Zola Jesus is mainly Nika from Wisconsin, though she has friends called Lindsay, Max Elliott and Dead Luke who help her play live. She studied opera for ten years and takes just as much inspiration from no-wave. She bridges the gap between those two distant pillars with tendencies toward the epic and Jefferson Airplane covers, all painted with the DIY glamour of U.S. Girls and Nite Jewel and a hopelessness that bit prettier than SALEM’s.
Make sure to check out NPIP's interview with her. Definitely worth checking out.

Lesbian Afternoon

If you want to get me to listen to an artist, tell me he sounds similar to Panda Bear. But he damn well better, or it's off with your head. Anyway, RCRD LBL has a free download up of this little gem by Lesbian Afternoon. It definitely reminds me of Panda Bear, but in a way that makes me appreciate the guy, not write him off as a copy artist. Hit up RCRD LBL to listen to it and download it for free.

I got the warm Furr-ies.

Pitchfork has brought us the delightful video to "Furr" by Blitzen Trapper, one of my favorite songs of 2008. It's delightful. Did I mention that? I think stop motion is the key to my heart, and if it's not then high-fiving bears certainly is.

KidBass behind the scenes

Alright, I guess KidBass's manager found last night's post pretty easily, because I got a promotional email from him today. Check out a video of behind the scenes footage for the "Good Girls Like Rude Boys (Feat. Kano)" video above, and visit the Tumblr for stills from the video. As a side note, people look kind of ridiculous doing shit in front of a green screen. Even attractive ladies. Also, isn't Kano a Mortal Kombat character?

Stream new Bon Iver EP on Myspace

I mentioned last week the new Bon Iver EP that's dropping January 20th, and now you can stream all four songs on his (or is it their now?) myspace page. The whole thing is absolutely wonderful, so do yourself the favor.

Start Moving My Feet, Wanna Clap My Hands

I love the Mad Decent crew. They never seem to disappoint. I'm still not sure what genre this falls into. Devro calls "Round n Round (Feat. 77Klash)" by Bosco Delrey rockabilly/surf, though that's really only part of it. It also includes some tropical feels to it, along with some definite laptop beat work. Quit trying to imagine it and just listen. Fucking brilliant.

Fever Ray - If I Had A Heart

Good Girls Love Rude Boys

FIRST UP! has turned me on to this banger, and it is astonishing. The single for KidBass's "Good Girls Love Rude Boys" drops February 16, and a video is coming soon. I'm anxiously waiting.

The Very Best video

Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit are The Very Best, or at least that's what they say, and I might just agree. They just released this video for the first single off the amazing free mixtape, and it is wonderful. Mwamwaya makes his first trip home to Lilongwe, Malawi, in nine years, and the video basically just captures a celebration.

XXXChange x Animal Collective x Frankie Knuckles

XXXChange put this mash-up of Animal Collective's "My Girls" and Frankie Knuckles' "Your Love" up on the Fully Fitted blog today. He based it off the similar synth lines in both songs. Also included is a mashup he did a few years back with the same Frankie Knuckles song and Justin Timberlake on vocals.

Thao Nguyen :: Daytrotter Session

Thao Nguyen & The Get Down Stay Down have graced us with their precense amongst the Daytrotter folks. This is an amazing session. Check out the first song below, and visit Daytrotter to catch the rest of it.

Here We Go Magic

Well GvB, Grizzly Bear, and Hipster Runoff are all clamoring over these fellows, as they very well should be. Now it's your turn. Here We Go Magic's "Tunnelvision" is definitely amazing, so I can only pray that the rest of the album is, but with Luke Temple behind it, I'd say we're in safe hands.

Erykah Badu x The Roots @ Woodstock '99

So miss Badu just threw this one out there to Cool Quest of the Roots on twitter. Definitely one of the coolest videos I've ever watched.

Harlem Video

"Witch Greens" by Harlem.

Attention: Fucked Up And Horny

A few weeks ago Chris over at GVB blogged about this song and I fell in love with it. After looking for more stuff from Ariel Pink, I was not surprised at all that all of his old material had been released on Animal Collective's Paw Tracks label. Those guys never cease to bring out some of the most amazing shit out there. So anyway, "Can't Hear My Eyes" has got me looking forward to some really great things in 2009 from Ariel Pink and Haunted Graffiti. Also, if you want to check out some of his older stuff, go here to download a bunch of shit, totally legit. His older stuff is a lot more lo-fi, but equally wonderful. Check out some older tracks below as well.

Bon Iver x Blood Bank EP

Bon Iver has a new four track EP coming out January 20th. It's titled Blood Bank, and you can pre-order it here. I recommend vinyl, of course. Until then, check out the title track below.

2dopeboyz gives us Super Friends + new Freeway track

This is definitely one of the longest rap tracks I've ever heard, featuring nine different rappers and no chorus. 2dopeboyz put up a track called "Super Friends" today, and it features (comic book pseudonyms in parenthesis): Mickey Factz (Silver Surfer), Fresh Daily (Spider-Man), $trictly Busine$$ (Wolverine), 6th Sense (The Thing), Oddisee (Archangel), Outasight (Gambit), Homeboy Sandman (The Sandman), Von Pea (Plastic Man), and 8thW1 (The Beast). I'm gonna go ahead and let the nerd in me shine by stating how it does annoy me a little bit that they are all dubbed as Marvel characters when the Super Friends is a DC thing. just saying.

MP3 :: Print, Mickey Factz, Homeboy Sandman, $trictly Busine$$, Outasight, 6th Sense, Oddisee, Von Pea & Fresh Daily - Super Friends

2dopeboyz also put up this new Freeway track featuring Lloyd Banks today. Also make sure to check out Freeway's Month Of Madness series and Banks' Cold Corner mixtape.

Nite Jewel x Suburbia

Nite Jewel has a free download of "Suburbia", from her newest LP Good Evening, up on RCRD LBL. Go here to download free, or just listen below.
